Lorraine Irene Ely-Morrison , Age: 76
March 05, 1947 - December 14, 2023

On December 14, 2023, Lorraine I. Ely-Morrison passed away at age 76 after a short battle
with cancer.
Born at St. Peter Hospital, Lorraine was a life-long resident of Olympia, with the exception of
1 year in San Francisco and 3 years in Germany. Lorraine attended Olympia High School, St.
Martin’s College, and University of Washington School of Law. Her passion for social justice,
civil rights, mental health, politics, music, and animals was evident to anyone who happened
across her path.
Lorraine’s love for classical music was shown as an accomplished pianist with plans to
further her music studies at University of Puget Sound with renowned instructor Leonard
Jacobsen, but those plans were thwarted upon his death in July of 1965. She went on to
play as accompanist with local theater and Summer Chorus, many recitals, as well as
accompanying her daughter, Alison, at her flute recitals. In the 1970s, she had numerous
acting/singing roles in local theater productions such as The King and I, The Ballad of Baby
Doe, Carrie Nation, and Riverboat. She also played the organ at First Presbyterian church
and served as an Extra and attended yearly productions at Seattle Opera while her late
husband, Ian D. Morrison, served in the chorus.
Upon graduation from the Master’s program in Psychology at St. Martin’s, Lorraine put her
focus on therapy for children and families at Community Mental Health Center in Olympia.
Yearning to become even more engaged, she continued her education at the University of
Washington School of Law where she passed the Bar Exam prior to the anniversary of her 3 rd
year of attendance. From there, she continued to advocate for justice at the juvenile
division of the Thurston County Prosecutor’s office and, later, as a family law attorney and
Guardian ad Litem representing not only the best interests of children, but also those of
incapacitated adults or under-aged parents, fulfilling her wish to provide a compassionate
“one-stop-shopping” experience of therapy and legal counsel for those undergoing difficult
circumstances.
Lorraine was also an avid and very loyal Mariner’s baseball fan, attending all home games in
her season ticket seats and often following them for spring training and Midwest to east
coast road trips.
Lorraine is survived by her children Alison Sepavich (Joel) and Douglas Wayne Pulse, Jr.
(Peggy), brothers Mike Ely (Michele) and Pat Ely (Katherine), 4 grandchildren (Elizabeth,
Emily, Evan, and Hannah) and 1 great-granddaughter (Katherine). She was preceded in
death by her parents Vincent C. Ely and Irene Ely, sister Nancy Jo Ulrich (Barry), husband
Ian D. Morrison, and numerous furry friends she cared for and loved fiercely over the years.
