Celebration of life
Sharon Louise Bennett
9/7/1939-11/7/2023

Sharon was born in Detroit, MI, on 9/7/1939. She was an only child of George and Anna Gilbert. As a
child, she loved to ice skate and ride her bike. She graduated High School and then Sharon met her
husband, Colin “Gordie” Bennett (deceased 1992) and they married on 9/5/1959. They were stationed
in Germany when they had their sons, Bruce Gordon Bennett, and Scott Bradley Bennett. They moved
to Indiana for about a year and had their third child, Suzanne Marie Bennett (deceased 2018). The
family then moved to Detroit, MI for a year and then Colin got stationed at Ft. Lewis, in 1966, so they
settled in Olympia, WA.

Sharon worked at a gas station in Olympia for a while, raising her family before she began working for
the City of Olympia for 25 years as a meter maid. She walked many miles during her time as a meter
maid in downtown Olympia and made lots of friends. She retired in 2003 and started her travel
adventures.

Her favorite color was purple, favorite season was summer, favorite holiday was Christmas, favorite
flower was Plumeria and Hibiscus. She enjoyed reading, sitting in the sunshine and watching
hummingbirds and having her toes in the sand whenever she could. She had a fairly large collection of
hummingbirds she collected over the years.

One of many joys for her was going camping with her camping group and family, traveling with friends
and family, playing board games or dice, and absolutely loved the beach! She was a member of the
“Lowe’s camping group” and did some community plays with that group, she was involved in her church,
First United Methodist Church of Olympia and was always enjoying life to the fullest.
Sharon had the travel bug and loved to go all over the world. She had been to Hawaii, Mexico, Europe,
Costa Rica, Panama/Panama Canal, the East Coast, Jerusalem, and many other places, enjoying new
adventures until she just couldn’t travel anymore.

Sharon had battled dementia for about 7 years, and it was slowly getting worse after she fractured her
femur in October 2022. Her family finally had to move her from her home of 60 years into a memory
care facility. Both her sons and daughter-in-law visited her as much as possible and even took her on
some road trips to the ocean and even boating on the Puget Sound, so she could feel the wind on her
cheeks as often as possible. Sharon had a great smile and loved to joke around. Her loving nature and
contagious smile touched so many lives.

She passed away peacefully in her sleep on 11/7/23 at 2:16 am at Garden Courte Memory Care, where
she lived, surrounded by caring staff.
Survived by (son) Bruce, (son) Scott, (granddaughter) Lynsey, (grandson) Chaz, (great granddaughters)
Marley and Aleta Bennett; (granddaughter) Anissa Loseman (great granddaughters) Lily and Cora
Loseman, (great grandson) Jacob Loseman.
