Woodlawn Funeral Home Obituaries

Werner Schilter , Age: 75
December 26, 1947 - October 30, 2023

Werner John Schilter went home to Jesus on October 30, 2023. He was born in
Olympia, Washington, on December 26, 1947, to Joseph and Anna Schilter. He
grew up on the family farm in South Bay, with his siblings, Joe, Charlie, Anna
Marie, and Elizabeth. He attended St. Michael’s Catholic School through the
eighth grade and remained friends with the “St. Mike’s Tykes” his entire life.
He graduated from North Thurston High School in 1966. Upon graduation he joined
the Army Reserves and served for six years. In 1968 Werner joined the
Carpenters’ Union as an apprentice in Olympia for four years. He was well
known in the area for his building expertise and started his own company called
“Schilter’s Shelters”. He loved his job, especially the relationships he developed
as general contractor while constructing many beautiful custom homes in the
local area. In 1973, Werner married the love of his life, Carolyn (Cari) Chapin.
They had two children, Scott Schilter (Jen) of Lone Tree, Colorado, and Stacy
Schilter Pisano (Dave) of Olympia, Washington. He was a devoted father and
grandfather to his children and three grandchildren, Jacob and Aubree Schilter,
and Jamison Pisano. Werner was an active member of the Swiss Sportsmen’s
Club and the Swiss Men’s Society, and honored his Swiss heritage. All who
knew Werner respected his deep values of faith, family, and friends. He
volunteered at Westwood Baptist’s “Woodchucks”, a ministry providing wood
for those in need. He leaves a legacy of love and simple faith for all those
blessed to know him. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends,
cousins, nieces, and nephews. Thank you to all who came to visit the last two
months of his life while he was home on Hospice.
