Woodlawn Funeral Home Obituaries

Don Fitch , Age: 78
July 14, 1945 - September 07, 2023

Beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandpa and uncle, Donnell Fitch passed quietly on September 7,
2023 in Lacey WA with his wife and daughter by his side.
Don was born July 14, 1945 in Seattle WA to Raymond and Thelma Fitch. He is proceeded in death by his
sister Sherrie, his brothers James and David (Lynn) and his parents. He is survived by his older brother
William (Ann-Rhea), sister Darlene (Dave), his wife of 57 years Betty, his son Paul (Jenny), daughter
Michelle, three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
After graduating Lincoln High School in 1963, he attended the University of Washington before serving
in the Naval Air Reserves at Fort Dobbs Air Force Base in Marietta GA. After returning to Washington, he
attended Shoreline Community College, earning an Associates Degree. He then worked for the state
Department of Natural Resources Forestry Dept in Clallam County. In 1976, he moved his family to
Olympia and worked in Survey's and Maps until his retirement in 2003.
Following retirement, he got to enjoy his love of horses, nature, exploring all things hidden in the woods,
the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge and a LOT of cookies. He was a member of the Thurston County Historical
Society, the Mayflower Society and had been an avid square dancer.
But his biggest enjoyment came from his three grandkids: Kyra, Kyle and Rachel. He loved teaching
Kyra about horses and nature and enjoyed attending piano recitals for Kyle and Rachel.
Don was best known for his witty sense of humor, his love of trains and battleships, photography, long
drives to nowhere and his quiet nature. He was also a talented artist and a big fan of Westerns. Many
times his tv would be on some spaghetti western or classic tv show. He was known as the original Cookie
Monster, but he really loved his daughter's apple pie!
