Nita Nelson (nee Oppelt) was born in Centralia, Washington May 5, 1923, to Orville and Mima Oppelt. She passed away January 13, 2023, just 4 months shy of her 100th birthday.

Orvilla, Mima, Nita, her twin sister Nedra and 3 other siblings; brothers Marion, Elwin and sister, Dorthea moved to Shelton, Washington in 1934. After graduation from Irene S Reed, Nita attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa. She returned to Shelton where she met and married Richard (Dick) Nelson in 1945 shortly after he fulfilled his service obligation during WWII.

Two sons Richard (Dick) Jr. and Stephen (Steve) quickly followed. Nita enjoyed being a homemaker and mother. After the boys started school, she began her 40+ year career at ITT Rayonier as a Research Lab Tech Assistant.

Nita was preceded in death by her Parents, husband and 4 siblings.
She is survived by sons Dick (Donna), Steve (Marcie); grandchildern David (Stacy), Christy (Trent), Karen (Kevin), Doug (Barb) and Mike (Holly) and 11 great grandchildern.
