The last family owned funeral home in Thurston County.

Jean Francis Elwess, of Olympia, Washington, peacefully passed away in her home on March 5, 2022 at the age of 86.  She was born on November 21, 1935, in Mount Carmel, North Dakota to Leslie and Christine Johnson. 

Jean was a self-taught artist, singer, and cake decorator.  She attended Colville High School where she was crowned Prom Queen her senior year and graduated class of 1953.  Jean lived all over the world including North Dakota, Kansas, Germany, California, Guam, and Washington.  She worked as a day care provider, homemaker, and a cashier.  She retired from Woolworth’s in 1997 after 14 years of service. 

Jean was a very warm and caring woman.  She loved her family, friends, and everyone in her community.  She had a strong Christian faith and knew she had a place in Heaven. 

Jean is survived by her children Rick Elwess, Kelly Elwess, Ronald Elwess, and Kim Elwess, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Jean is preceded in death by her sister, Marjorie Benson, her son, Thomas Elwess, and her grandson, Matthew Rose.
