Husband, Dad, Grampa, Great Grampa, Brother, Uncle, Great Uncle, Great Great Uncle, Brother-in-Law, Father-in-Law, Father figure (2nd Dad), Best Friend, Friend, Square, Coach, Teacher, Mentor, Hero, Jokester, the Solid, the Constant, the Rock, Lover of Nature and Lover of Life

All who knew him, loved him. Even those who didn’t know him well could see he was a man that loved others and that he always wanted all to be happy and feel included.

He believed you work hard and then you play hard and that he did. Let’s get our chores done so we can play…let’s go hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing, oystering, crabbing, geoducking, shrimping, swimming, hiking, camping, playing baseball, softball, football, horseshoes, cornhole, cribbage, any type of game all while laughing and enjoying time with each other.

To him, family was everything. But just because you weren’t blood, didn’t mean you weren’t family. Dad and Mom welcomed everyone…sometimes even if they weren’t sure they wanted to. They always believed in everyone and tried to help all to be the best that they could be. So, his family is huge, and you know who you are.

Everyone who knew him had this special bond. I would say that each and every one of us would have considered him to be our best friend. The one you would go to for advice, for a laugh, for a heart to heart, or just to shoot-the-shit, and you knew he’d give you the shoulder to cry on, the toast to a success or the hug or a squeeze to move to the next step or to slow down, all while really leaving it up to you. All he really wanted was for those he loved to feel proud of themselves and know that they are loved and successful no matter what that was.

He was not ready to leave us, but sometimes we don’t get to choose when we go. It’s hard to imagine this world without him since for so many of us he was the encouragement we needed or just the place to go for that fun that isn’t in the day-to-day grind. That little bit of laughter that makes it all okay. So many of us had plans for him to be at special events or just everyday events in our lives that physically he will not be able to make, but remember, he will be there in each and every one of us that carry him in our hearts and in spirit. Just look around and you will see him there, in the beauty of the moment, in the animals or wherever you spent time together, whether it be the bay, the hills, the beach, the mountains, the ballfield…he’s there loving all those moments with you and smiling with those beautiful, sparkling blue eyes and childlike grin reminding you always…work hard and play hard and love your family. That’s really all there is to this life.
