Lillian G Carr, Age: 84

August 30, 1937 - October 23, 2021

Lillian, 84, passed away at Madigan Army Medical Center in JBLM, Washington on October 23rd, 2021. She was born to Will and Geneva Gandy in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The Gandy was a bustling place, with ten children running around there. Lillian graduated from Little Rock High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. She went on to Skadron College of Business and San Bernardino Valley College in San Bernardino, California. She has lived in numerous places including Richton, Mississippi; Little Rock, Arkansas; San Bernardino, California; Mildenhall, England; Soesterberg, Netherlands; and finally, Lacey, Washington.

                                                       While living in San Bernardino, California, Lillian met a gentleman named Robert Carr. On June 30th, 1973,                                                                    Lillian and Robert married at St Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Lillian had a long career as a Lead Appeals Specialist at the Board of Industrial Insurance for the State of Washington. Lillian was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Lacey, Washington. She served on many church Boards, the Bell Choir, and was an active member of the Quilting Group. She spent many hours reading and studying the Bible.

Lillian’s favorite scripture was Isaiah 40:31(NKJV) –

“But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength.

They shall mount up on wings like eagles;

They will run and not be weary,

They shall walk and not be faint”.

Lillian had many hobbies. She was a master seamstress and quilter and loved making things for family and friends, and for church. She loved all things Disney, from watching Disney movies, to visiting Disneyland. To keep her mind active, Lillian love working on crossword puzzles. Her garden was a point of pride for her and she loved being out with her flowers.

Lillian was a generous and loving spirit. She was a friend to many and invited everyone to join her. Family meant everything to her, and she would do anything for family. Her granddaughters made her world complete. She spent as much time as she could with them as possible.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Carr of Lacey, Washington; her three children Carolyn Smith (Rob) of Federal Way, Washington, Dorothea Cartwright of San Bernardino, California, and Tamara Carr of Martinez, California; and her two granddaughters Mikaela Smith and Yvette Jackson. Meeting her at Heaven’s Gate were her parents Will and Geneva Gandy; her son Allen Taylor; her sisters Mary Lou Harvey, Azalea Williams, Mattie Kirkland, Catherine Reed, Dorothy Hinton; and her brothers Andrew, Austin, George and Allen Gandy.

Lillian was laid to rest on Tuesday, November 16th at 1:30pm at Tahoma National Cemetery (18600 SE 240th Street, Kent WA 98042-4868). A more public Celebration of Lillian’s Life will take place next year.
