Woodlawn Funeral Home Obituaries

John Haukom , Age: 81
February 02, 1941 - February 02, 2022

John Haukom was born on February 2, 1941 and is the second child to John Monroe Haukom and Eva Marie Ullevig. He has an older sister, Barbara Hurlock and a younger sister, Linda Evanstead. John had four boys, John Charles, Jefferey Allen, Richard Herman, and Ronald Monroe, Two daughters-in-law, Yvonne and Michelle and one son-in-law, Bruce. He was blessed with three granddaughters, Tesia Haukom (Rick), Dakotah Haukom (Jeff) and preceded in death, Katie Haukom (Rick). Tesia and Dakotah blessed him with one great grandson, Areli and two great granddaughters, Gracie and Charlotte, in addition to his extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews and more grandchildren and great grandchildren from marriages through the years. He also leaves behind his beloved K9 companion, Carley.

John passed on his 81st birthday. He had been dealing with serious medical issues for the past several months, passing away in the hospital with family at his bedside.

John had a rich full life, he graduated from Bremerton High school while learning the bakery trade. John worked in several bakeries before opening John’s Mountain Home Bakery in Lacey.

He enjoyed working on his classic cars and taking them to car shows and showing them off.  He had a passion for the outdoors; specifically hiking in the Northwest. He summited Mt Rainier, Mt St Helen’s, Mt Adams, Mt Washington, and Mt Elinor. He was also an avid cyclist.  He did many bicycle classics such as the STP ride. Additionally, he did other triathlons and biathlons with friends where he was the cyclist.

After retiring from John's Mountain Home Bakery, he devoted his time to family and friends. Prior to the Covid Pandemic, he volunteered at
the Le May Auto Museum in Tacoma. We would be remised if we didn't mention his daily "hike" to Wonderwood Park in Lacey, where he walked his dog, Carley faithfully every day. In doing so, John found friendship with many other dog owners to include his friend, Bobby Lumpkin.
