Woodlawn Funeral Home Obituaries

Werner Huttmann , Age: 72
July 29, 1950 - November 19, 2022

Werner Huttmann (Opa) was born on July 29, 1950 to Else (Shaumberger) and Hugo Huttmann
in Crailsheim, Germany. He was the third of six children and spent his formative years on the
family farm. His family moved to Fuchsmuhl, Germany where his mother was from and there
they built the family home. Werner attended trade school to become an electrician. When he
finished trade school, he was recruited by the Deutsches Bundespost to put his electrical
experience to work for the phone company. Music was a large part of Werner’s upbringing as
his dad played in a military band and later in the town musical group. Werner learned to play
the trumpet and guitar, and later formed his own band with his brother, friends and local
talent. And since his favorite singer was “Lolita”, he named his band “The Lolitas”. They became
quite popular locally and in the surrounding areas, playing music for weddings, celebrations,
local restaurants, and Beer Fests; and that is where he met his wife, Frances, who happened to
be visiting family. It wasn’t love at first sight, but through conversations and many, many, many
letters, love blossomed. After promising her dad a round trip ticket (in case she wanted to come
home), Frances came back to Germany and became his wife. They started their life together in
1973, and later that year they welcomed their son, Daniel to the family. 10 months after that
their daughter, Maike arrived and their family was complete.

Werner, Frances and their kids visited the USA twice before they decided to move here
permanently in 1979. That was not an easy move for Werner, as he spoke no English. His first
job as an electrician required his boss to tell Frances what his job would be that day, and she
then translated the instructions to him. With great effort and stubbornness, Werner quickly
learned the language. After working with several local companies, Werner and Frances founded
“Huttmann Electric”. Family owned and operated! With Werner’s hard work, he soon earned a
reputation for doing a good, clean job. Dan and Maike were raised helping at the jobs. When
Dan graduated from college, he returned home to work beside his dad to make Huttmann
Electric what it is today. Maike also spent a few years working with her dad until she started her
own business.

Werner was a hard worker and he believed that work was a measure of who you were and
what you stood for. He was a good and loyal friend and when you were his friend, you were a
friend for life. He would do anything for his friends and family. He loved to cook and bake, and
he loved to do both for his family. Sunday night was family dinner night. He would spend the
entire day cooking, baking, and preparing a German meal with dessert. He loved to see his
family gathered around the table, laughing and talking and enjoying what he had made. Werner
loved his family above anything else. Family meant everything to him!

Werner is survived by his wife Frances, his daughter Maike Whitman (Alex), his son Daniel
(Becca), two grandchildren Jakob (who plans on returning home after college to join his dad in
the family business) and Emmy (who inherited her Opa’s love of music and plays the flute and
the piano), his brother Karl (Gabi) of Koln, Germany, his sister Traudl Dillinger (Heinz) of NeuMarkt,
Germany, sister in law Traudl of Fuchsmuhl, Germany, and several cousins, nieces,
nephews, and extended family.

Werner (Opa) was loved so very much and words cannot express how much he will be missed
by his family.
