Shigeko Rains, 94, died in her sleep on Oct. 11, 2022 at her daughter’s home

in Lacey, WA. A Japanese War Bride from WWII, she lived much of her married life in

Indiana. She divorced in 1980 and retired to enjoy making Japanese dolls, doing

origami and roller skating in her 60s, but ballroom dancing was her favorite activity well

into her 80s. She won many medals and trophies for her skillful dancing. Her favorite

dance was the Tango, where, when dipped by her partner, her head would be just

inches from the floor.

Shigeko had advanced dementia and came to live with her daughter in Washington

State in 2019. She is survived by her younger Sister and a Nephew in Japan, and also by

her daughter, Frances V. Rains of Lacey, WA.

The last family owned funeral home in Thurston County.
