Woodlawn Funeral Home Obituaries

Jean Pacheco , Age: 82
June 14, 1939 - May 02, 2022

Jean A Pacheco, 82, passed away in her sleep on May 2, 2022, in Olympia, WA. On June 14, 1939, she
was born in Pasco, Wa, and was the 4th child of 8 born to John and Laura Schmelzer.   Jean grew up in a
loving family in Kennewick and enjoyed telling stories of her childhood on the farm.
Jean attended Bethlehem Lutheran School and graduated from Kennewick High in 1957. Jean attended
Govans Beauty School and earned her cosmetology license, which she kept current until 2020.
Jean met the love of her life Peter Pacheco Jr, who was playing the Ukulele outside the five and dime in
Richland, WA.
Jean and Pete wed on May 9, 1959, and headed to Oahu, HI, spending the first four months of married
life in Waikiki, the first stop of many during Pete's military career. Jean and Pete had three children and
traveled worldwide where his military assignments took them.

Jean spent the last 45 years in Olympia, WA; Jean worked at the Fort Lewis Lodge, retiring to take care
of her granddaughters. She loved her family, grandchildren, & great-grandson; they all had a special
place in her heart. She spent many hours with her grandchildren, finding joy in crafting and spoiling
them as much as possible. Whether every day or less frequently, they all loved going to see grandma,
and she loved seeing them.    Jean loved everyone and always had a hug and a plate of food if you came
to visit, ok more like enough food for an army. She loved to cook for her family and friends and any
chance she could get to visit Kennewick.
Jean is survived by her loving husband Pete, sons Darrell (Jamey) Pacheco, Mark (Missi) Pacheco, and
daughter Laura (Rob) Morrison. Her grandchildren; Amber (Shaun) Blumenstein, Bryanna Burbank,
Brandon Pacheco, Shelby Pacheco, and great-grandson Merlin Blumenstein. Her siblings Loretta Hesse,
Carol Berna, Arnold Schmelzer, John (Glenda) Schmelzer, David (Margaret) Schmelzer, Sandra (Terry)
Kirkwood and Allen (Jerri Ann) Schmelzer, numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death
by her parents John and Laura Schmelzer, nephews Don Hesse, Arnold Schmelzer and niece Theresa
Schmelzer.
Jean was a Beloved Wife, Mom, Grandma, Sister, and Friend, leaving many beautiful memories to
cherish.
Never goodbye, only Hugs, and Kisses.
